We're proud to announce that we were awarded the Best Dessert Winner for the second year in a row at the Taste of Huntington Beach last weekend! Christy created an amazing array of absolutely beautiful and delicious desserts for the table display. The mix included White Chocolate Pineapple Cookies, Mini Passion Fruit Tarts with Vanilla Bean Mousse, Orange Cream Tarts, Lemon Mousse Tarts, & French Macaroons with White Chocolate Orange Buttercream. A mouthful, right?

Even better, for the actual competition we served Rum Soaked Butter Cake with Passion Fruit Curd and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Buttercream, and Christy's famous Shortbread Minis! All the hard work paid off when the judges declared Simply Layered as the Best Dessert Winner, hands down! 

On Saturday, 4/28, from 11am - 5pm, we'll at the Artisan Food Festival in Irvine working alongside Duke's Restaurant as their Pastry Chef! We'll be bringing along some yummy desserts for sampling... Including Pineapple Coconut Bars, Cherry Pecan Sticky Bread, Apple Tarts, Chocolate Truffles and more!

Christy's been a foodie from the very beginning, growing up in a family full of culinary talent! She started learning about the art of food and catering at a young age. After living overseas in France for three months, she determined to come back home to Orange County and be able to make a living off of what she loves doing most... baking sweets! She opened Simply Layered in 2008 and focuses on cake design and confections. Each dessert is beautifully constructed and delicious in taste. Her cakes are masterful, artistic and unique.

Christy's passion and philosophy around everything she bakes is simple and goes back to the basics - Use all natural products to create amazing desserts. She is avid about using organic ingredients, and fresh, never canned products. Christy is constantly in the kitchen inventing, experimenting and perfecting new recipes, and genuinely enjoying every moment of it!  

She has been featured in TLC's "Ultimate Cake Off" three times , and part of the winning team twice. Christy also stays actively involved in programs around Orange County and currently helps with "Chefs for Scholarships" and also won Best Dessert at the Taste of Huntington Beach, 2011.
